DAVID WAITS PATIENTLY TO BE THE KING ON THE THRONE

Having killed the Philistine hero, Goliath, David has many encounters with the the King of Israel, Saul, before the time is right for him to be acclaimed king.  David shows patience and a trust in his God.

1.1 introduction: explains layout of the lesson page details; how Juniors can be involved in their own meeting; how to use these studies for the Scottish Award Scheme (optional); use of Chain Prayer, Drama, and Sword Drill in a weekly meeting. There are many other varied activities which are provided in the topics.

1.2 David is Chosen to be King: Bible focus - 1 Samuel 16: 1-13 Samuel anoints David as king of Israel.  Teaching focus - it is our character that is important, not out looks.

2. David defeats Goliath: Bible focus - 1 Samuel 17: 4-51 Eventually, David is trusted to fight for Saul and kill the Philistine hero, Goliath.  Teaching - submit to God and trust in His care.

3. David the Musician: Bible focus - 1 Samuel 16: 14-23 and I Samuel 18: 5-12   King Saul is jealous of David and during one of his mood swings tries to kill him. David tries to calm Saul by playing the harp.  Teaching - use your skills to help others.  Enjoy music!

4. David trusts a friend: Bible focus 1 Samuel 18: 2-2 and 1 Samuel 20: 17-42  Prince Jonathan is friendly with David  and helps David to escape from King Saul. Teaching - friendship, trust and loyalty.

5. David the Outlaw: Bible focus - 1 Samuel 24: 1-20  Despite the fact that King Saul is trying to kill him, David does not kill King Saul when he has the opportunity to do so. Teaching - do not take revenge, conquer evil with good.
